Ultrasound Basics
The average PA often has limited to no knowledge of ultrasound and can better utilize it for the benefit of their patients. Ultrasound can help direct workup or even completely change the management in the acute care setting. PAs attending this workshop will understand the basic functions of the ultrasound machine and perform various exams.
Mastering Musculoskeletal Injections
Mastering Musculoskeletal Injections is a hands-on workshop dedicated to ensuring PAs feel more comfortable providing and array or musculoskeletal injections. Orthopedic pain due to acute injury or overuse is very common, and treatment of these injuries if delayed can lead to ongoing pain, poor quality of life and worse outcomes for the patient. PAs in multiple specialties benefit when they have confidence in managing common orthopedic injuries.
BLUEs CLUEs Ultrasound
The BLUEs CLUEs Ultrasound is a hands-on workshop dedicated to following the BLUEs CLUEs lecture and giving participants the opportunity to practice. Attendees will obtain an adequate image of the lung sliding and “A-lines,” as well as obtain images of the “curtain sign.” After attending this workshop, you will be able to correctly identify the anterior mitral valve leaflet in PLAX and determine if ejection fraction is normal, as well as the inferior vena cava and identify changed in respiration.
FAST Exam
Focused Assessment With Sonography in Trauma (FAST) is an ultrasound protocol developed to assess for hemoperitoneum and hemopericardium. The sensitivity of FAST has been measured between 85 and 96%, and specificity greater than 98%. In hypotensive trauma patients, sensitivity has approached 100%. FAST can be performed by experienced personnel in less than 5 minutes, and its use has been shown to decrease the time to surgical intervention, the patient length of stay, and the need for computed tomography (CT) and diagnostic peritoneal lavage (DPL). It is estimated that over 96% of level 1 trauma centers incorporate FAST into their trauma algorithms
Manual Vacuum Aspiration for Induced Abortion
Post-Dobbs, access to reproductive health care, including procedural abortion, has been limited despite the fact that 1 in 4 women will have an abortion in their lifetime. Being able to provide care in a patient's own community (or where care is restricted, being able to discuss the procedural abortion process using manual vacuum aspiration) breaks down barriers to access.
Elevating Suturing Basics
Elevating Suturing Basics is a hands-on workshop dedicated to improving the techniques and aesthetics of common surgical procedures expected of PAs in general surgery, emergency medicine, urgent care, and basic orthopedics.
