CAPA Leader Spotlight: Bob Miller, PA-C

Honoring a pioneer, advocate, and mentor whose decades of service helped shape the PA profession in California.

Bob Miller, PA-C

Bob Miller, PA-C, was a beloved CAPA leader, tireless advocate, and one of the many individuals whose dedication helped shape the Physician Associate profession in California. Through his clinical expertise, mentorship, and unwavering commitment to advancing the role of PAs, Bob left a lasting impact on patients, colleagues, and the profession he loved.

A Pioneer in Patient Care

Bob was the first PA hired at Children's Hospital Los Angeles, where he cared for patients with hemophilia for more than 30 years as a key member of a multidisciplinary specialty care team. He served as a mentor clinician throughout the Western States Hemophilia Treatment Center Network, educating countless healthcare professionals in the diagnosis and treatment of bleeding disorders. His contributions extended far beyond the bedside. Bob authored numerous peer-reviewed publications, lectured at medical schools across the region, and shared his expertise at national and international conferences.

Advancing the Profession

Within CAPA, Bob was instrumental in advancing the profession through his leadership, advocacy, and service. He served as the first Chair of CAPA's Professional Practice Committee and was deeply involved in efforts to remove barriers to PA practice in California. In recognition of his extraordinary contributions to the profession, he received CAPA's Pride of the Profession Award in 2012.

"It was about the same time I began the fight with Medi-Cal. We won that one only with the help of Karen Bass, who was Assembly Speaker back then."

A Lasting Legacy

“
I frequently talk to my students about what Bob and others of his generation had to go through so they can understand that they are standing on the shoulders of giants.
– Sonny Cline, PA-C, CAPA President

Bob's legacy lives on through the clinicians he mentored, the patients he served, and the generations of PAs who continue to benefit from the foundation he helped build.
