FACULTY - Associate Director, Research & Assessment
The University of California San Diego School of Medicine Physician Assistant Education program invites applications for a 12-month, full-time position to serve as founding Director of Research and Assessment (DRA). In this role, the DRA is responsible for the coordination and supervision of the program’s research, grant, and alumni activities. In addition, the DRA performs a variety of complex financial, technical, and support services involving grant writing, data analysis and review related to all program assessments and continuous improvement processes.

The duties and responsibilities of the DCE are as follow:
  • Co-write and coordinate grants and projects
  • Develop systems for data collection, reporting criteria and grant records
  • Research and compile statistics and data for grants/projects and self-study reports 
  • Create, monitor and maintain audit files for program compliance
  • Analyze, create, and present reports from databases 
  • Determine data needs for grants, accreditation, and program success
  • Develop and administer survey instruments, forms, and questionnaires
  • Review and prepare program reports and data 
  • Document survey/data review process and product 
  • Assist with preparation of the accreditation application and reports, including the ARC-PA Self-Study
  • Evaluate practice patterns, salary, etc. by preparing and distributing the annual alumni survey
Didactic teaching responsibilities include teaching, evaluating, and advising didactic and clinical year physician assistant students. This position includes a clinical release day to provide clinical care in the UCSD Medical Center system. Additional duties include but are not limited to the following: 
  • Attend meetings, committees, events, and activities of the Program, department, and University as assigned
  • Participate in scholarly activity, professional activity, and research as mutually agreed with the program director 
  • Other duties and activities as assigned by the program director

Requirements Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in physician assistant studies from an ARC-PA accredited program
  • Current certification through the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants 
  • California physician assistant license (or be eligible to obtain a California PA license at the time of hire) 
  • One (1) year of experience in higher ed academia
  • Three (3) years of clinical experience
Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced degree in education, teaching, or learning sciences
  • Doctoral prepared (PhD or EdD)
  • Record of scholarly publication and external grant acquisition and management
  • Advanced statistical knowledge and evidence of application
  • Knowledge and experience with Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant current standards
  • Managerial and leadership experience
  • Three (3) years or more experience in physician assistant education
  • Five (5) years or more clinical experience
