FACULTY - Associate Director, Didactic Education
The University of California San Diego School of Medicine Physician Assistant Education program invites applications for a 12-month, full-time position to serve as founding Director of Didactic Education (DDE). In this role, the DDE is responsible for the coordination and supervision of the didactic year.
The duties and responsibilities of the DDE are as follow:
- Support the program director through oversight of the curriculum including evaluation and revision
- Supporting assessment of the curriculum and program
- Supporting faculty development
- Supporting learner development
- Coordinate the sequencing and delivery of content within assigned courses in the didactic and clinical year
- Coordinate the implementation of student evaluation of courses
- Contributing to ongoing self-study process and formal report to accrediting body
- Assisting with the continuous development, review, planning, outcomes, evaluation and general effectiveness of the PA Program
Didactic teaching responsibilities include teaching, evaluating, and advising didactic and clinical year physician assistant students. This position includes a clinical release day to provide clinical care in the UCSD Medical Center system. Additional duties include but are not limited to the following:
- Attend meetings, committees, events, and activities of the Program, department, and University as assigned
- Participate in scholarly activity, professional activity, and research as mutually agreed with the program director
- Other duties and activities as assigned by the program director

Requirements |
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s degree in physician assistant studies from an ARC-PA accredited program
- Current certification through the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants
- California physician assistant license (or be eligible to obtain a California PA license at the time of hire)
- One (1) year of experience in higher ed academia
- Three (3) years of clinical experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree in education, teaching, or learning sciences
- Knowledge and experience with Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant current standards
- Managerial and leadership experience
- Three (3) years or more experience in physician assistant education
- Five (5) years or more clinical experience
Special Conditions
- Employment is subject to a criminal background check.
- Occasional evenings and weekends may be required.
