FACULTY - Associate Director, Clinical Education & Simulation
The University of California San Diego School of Medicine Physician Assistant Education program invites applications for a 12-month, full-time position to serve as founding Director of Clinical Education (DCE). In this role, the DCE is responsible for the coordination and supervision of the clinical year.
The duties and responsibilities of the DCE are as follow:
- Recruits, develops, and maintains clinical year rotation sites and preceptors
- Coordinates student placement at clinical sites
- Performs clinical site visits to evaluate the quality of student education as part of ongoing program self-assessment
- Develop and maintain clinical course syllabi, learning outcomes, objectives and assessment of clinical rotations
- Evaluate and track student performance and provide remedial instruction as necessary
- Design, implement, evaluate, and standardize clinical simulation educational programming
- Mentor faculty, clinicians, and staff in the design of curriculum involving clinical simulation.
Didactic teaching responsibilities include teaching, evaluating, and advising didactic and clinical year physician assistant students. This position includes a clinical release day to provide clinical care in the USCD Medical Center system. Additional duties include but are not limited to the following:
- Attend meetings, committees, events, and activities of the Program, department, and University as assigned
- Participate in scholarly activity, professional activity, and research as mutually agreed with the program director
- Other duties and activities as assigned by the program director

Requirements |
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s degree in physician assistant studies from an ARC-PA accredited program
- Current certification through the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants
- California physician assistant license (or be eligible to obtain a California PA license at the time of hire)
- One (1) year of experience in higher ed academia
- Three (3) years of clinical experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree in education, teaching, or learning sciences
- Knowledge and experience with Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant current standards
- Managerial and leadership experience
- Three (3) years or more experience in physician assistant education
- One (1) year or more experience with clinical simulation educational programming
- One (1) year or more experience with clinical placement experience
- One (1) year or more experience precepting students
- Five (5) years or more clinical experience
