Advanced Practice Providers (APP) Fellowship
The Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing at UC Davis seeks highly motivated master’s-degree or doctorally prepared early-career, advanced practice providers to serve in a unique role that integrates a transition-to-practice clinical experience with clinical teaching activities in a structured, guided learning environment.

The Advanced Practice Providers (APP) Fellowship includes eight full-time, 12-month positions at the instructor rank in the Health Sciences Clinical Professor (HSCP) Series at UC Davis Health, which is located on a modern, 140-acre campus in Sacramento, California. The Sacramento campus is home to the School of Nursing, School of Medicine, UC Davis Medical Center (including a level-I trauma center and burn unit, and a full range of outpatient services), a fully accredited children’s hospital, and an NCI-designated comprehensive cancer center. Practice locations are throughout UC Davis Health.

The APP Fellowship includes one position in each of these specialties:
  • Trauma surgery
  • Neurology
  • Neurological surgery
  • Radiology
  • Orthopaedic surgery

  • Endocrinology and in-patient glycemic control team
  • Oncology

Depending on the specialty, the fellowship program accepts Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP) or Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AG-ACNP), Adult Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner (AG-PCNP), Adult Nurse Practitioner (ANP), Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP), and Physician Assistant (PA-C) national certification applicants only (certification required upon selection). This position fulfills 2000 of the 4600 hours required of transition-to-practice experience as outlined in AB 890.

This is a limited, 12-month engagement. APP Fellows must have graduated within 18 months of the start of the program (nurse practitioner or physician assistant program completion cannot be prior to July 1, 2021).

Clinical responsibilities
The APP Radiology Fellowship – Health Sciences Clinical Instructor participates in a structured, mentored program to develop advanced clinical knowledge, skills, professional behaviors, and practice management for APP Fellowship specialty track advanced practice providers. The focus of the fellowship is on enhancing advanced clinical knowledge and proficiency, gaining practice management expertise, and exposure to clinical teaching skills. This appointment employs a practice-based environment to prepare APPs for independent clinical practice as well as building skills such as those required for a clinical preceptor, clinical instructor or clinician educator.

Teaching responsibilities
As part of this experience and with guidance from experienced faculty and clinicians, APP Fellows are limited to one clinical education activity (if appropriate) for students, nursing staff, or peers, and participate in at least one of the following activities: precepting a nurse practitioner (NP) or physician assistant (PA) student, providing lectures to NP and PA students, co-leading clinical skill labs or facilitating small groups during simulations or case discussions. Teaching activities could also include providing a lecture to students or peers, teaching clinical procedures, providing feedback or assisting with training.
