As CAPA Lobbyist, Bryce Docherty says, “There is a culture and a rhythm of the Sacramento Capitol that is similar to that of a jungle in the middle of a rainforest. Resources are scarce and it’s always ‘survival of the fittest’.”

In the world of politics, like in the jungle, size matters. We have come a long way and we are thrilled to be running with the gazelles, so to speak. However, if you are going to run with gazelles, you better be well equipped, nimble and have a plan.

We have a plan – every California legislator will have a first-hand, PA Experience. With term limits, this is even more important and a constant focus for our Grassroots Network. Our Lobbyist and Government Affairs Committee are diligent in their efforts to work with legislators to protect and promote PA practice in California. The final piece of the plan; we must build up CAPA’s Political Action Committee (PAC). This will equip us with the funds needed to give us the big voice, the roar that will be heard throughout the jungle. PAs are an integral part of California’s health care system. They are well-trained, well-received and they want to work in team practice with physicians.

It is important to note that no portion of your membership dues dollars may be used to contribute to political campaigns. You must contribute and designate PAC dollars as such. This is why we have the separate box for PAC contributions on your dues statement. If you did not contribute to the PAC when you renewed your membership, please go to the CAPA website and contribute today. Or you may call the CAPA office or use the contribution form below to mail in your contribution.

Our goal is to have each and every CAPA member contribute to the CAPA PAC each and every year. This year we are having a bit of fun with the jungle theme. At the CAPA Conference (October 2-5), we will be hosting a PAC Reception on Saturday evening for all who have contributed $100 or more to the CAPA PAC since January 1, 2008. The reception will be in the President’s Suite at the Wyndham Hotel. We hope to see you there.
